he may have been away from the valley for the first three months of the 2005/06 season, but it definitely wasn't a case of out of sight, out of mind for charlton's promising young custodian randolph.

from august through to november the republic of ireland u21 international enjoyed an outstanding loan period at soon-to-be conference champions accrington stanley.

but even though his exceptional form for john coleman's side was taking place some 250 miles from the addicks' management team, it didn't stop him earning himself a two-year professional contract shortly after his return.

indeed, it wasn't only a new contract that randolph had cause to celebrate.

he was on the bench again for the final game of the campaign, away at manchester united when he again came close to making his debut after andersen suffered a knock, and he tasted further first-team life in the 2005/06 pre-season friendlies, enjoying squad places for the two valley friendlies against feyenoord and aek athens.

randolph made eight u18 appearances and a trio of outings for the reserves in 2004/05 but the bulk of his playing time in that campaign came for his country's u19s, who competed in the first two phases of the european championship qualifying.

randolph received further international recognition in february 2005, when he was selected as ireland's player of the year in the u19 category - a year above his natural age group.
